Kickstarter: 5 Things You Didn't Know About Moonphases Playing Cards by The Perpetual Playing Card Company

The Moonphases is a unique deck of playing cards currently seeking funds on Kickstarter. Designed by Perpetual Arts & Design Company, headed by Carlos Pun, the deck is inspired by horology and mechanical watches and is fully custom featuring a cool bold back design that looks great for cardistry. Here are 5 things you didn't know about Moonphases Playing Cards:

1. The Moon Phase Back
The team at Perpetual Arts & Design Co. wanted to create a bold deck with an almost iconic look, in watches the moon phase complication is perhaps the most beautiful and meaningful there is and the most elemental in its graphical representation of time. Carlos explained, "Two mirrored moon phases in a solid silver metallic ink back, give us the look and feel that we deeply strive for, like the most expensive deck of cards, (casino decks) but with a sophistication and beauty that goes beyond the surface. They display the moon and the stars representing the perpetual passing of time in space, their mysterious look makes just holding it in your hands feels magical."

2. Cool Unique Feature
The real secret of this deck, however, comes when the cards are riffled through, it produces a magical illusion, the moon phase slowly (or rapidly) spins in an almost perpetual animation, as if produced by the intricate machine it holds within, it integrates every single card as every single watch part to work as a unit to produce this amazing animation. It also works to match a very cool card reveal included. “This is the perfect allegory to what an intricate beautiful engineer can produce flawlessly on a mechanical watch.”

3. Fully Custom and Intricate Courts
The redesigned hand-illustrated court cards of the deck are certainly eye-catching. Inspired by watchmaking pieces and aesthetics. Gears, jewels and crowns seamlessly blend into their design while maintaining their classic elements so they're still recognizable. Each of the court cards are a work of art by themselves. They look like intricate automatons. There are also fine prints and original acrylic paintings as an add-on on the Kickstarter project.

4. Redesigned Pips
All four pips are recreated like watch parts. The spades are the mechanical rotor in automatic watches, the hearts gears and the hairspring, the diamonds the jewel bearings and the clubs a chronograph dial that even marks the value on each card!

5. Free Cardistry and Magic Instructionals
Also included is an amazing card revelation anyone can use to amaze. "You can use it with the moonphase animation to produce a truly magical experience. We've included in every pledge bonus tutorials, one for the card reveal and another for a great trick using the unique backs. Most of the pledges also include some nice cardistry and card magic instructionals of your choice completely free!"

Moonphases will be printed by the USPCC in crushed Bee stock with Air-Cushion Finish and the backs will feature shimmering silver metallic ink. If you've like what you read here and would like to support Moonphase Playing Cards, head to the Kickstarter page here! Pledge start at $11.

Kickstarter: Red Roses Playing Cards by Daniel Schnieder

Following the unexpected success of the Black Roses and the Black Roses Immergrün Playing Cards, designer Daniel Schnieder released Red Roses- the third edition in the Black Roses series. Daniel told Kardify,
The idea of the Red Roses deck is as old as the very first Black Roses deck I have designed in 2014. After 4 years the Red Roses are finally on Kickstarter to become reality.

Currently funding on Kickstarter, the Red Roses Playing Cards is an elegant deck that links classic design with modern elements. This deck is fully custom from the personalized court cards to the intricate back design composed of clean and smooth lines. Daniel continued,
All pips and face cards are completely redesigned in this edition. I don't want people to think that they just buy the same deck over and over again just with another color. I want people to see I always put more time and effort into a deck of cards than probably necessary to sell it.

Daniel is a huge fan of vintage playing cards from the last century and it is obvious from his designs. The redesigned courts make the vintage feel stronger than before, without losing the current zeitgeist.

The Red Roses deck will be printed by the US Playing Card Co on crushed paper stock and tradition cut. Available now on Kickstarter, pledge starts at €10 (~USD$12.5). Also in this campaign, the Limited Gold Metallic Ink Edition will be unlocked once the stretched goal 10,000€ is achieved.

Kickstarter: Metropol NEXT Playing Cards

After a year of hiatus, Metropol Playing Cards is back! Founder Mike Lambert has just released the Metropol NEXT on Kickstarter. The project is seeking $8.5k in funding goal and is currently 34% funded. The modern deck oozes sophistication and style all wrapped in one.

On the design of Metropol NEXT, Mike told Kardify,
I started designing the Metropol NEXT deck a little over a year ago.  At the time I thought the design was finished and was planning to launch it early on in 2018.  Since then my wife and I welcomed our first child into the world.  After taking a much-needed break to spend with family and enjoy this new chapter of my life I decided it was time to revisit NEXT with a fresh perspective.

Mike decided to re-work Metropol NEXT from the ground up.
While I kept the look and feel of the previous design, I revised every aspect of the original including colours, pip placement, court cards, aces, and a completely new tuck design.  I even decided to step away from the 3-letter naming scheme I had been using for all my previous decks, NOX, LUX, DEX, etc.  All this time I had been referring to the new deck as NEX but decided it was time for something new.

Along with a new name, the deck features strong colored faces with bold linework front and back which makes it great for cardistry.

The layout of the all-white pips and indices has been updated as well as the court cards. The aces also showcase a unique design element to help them stand out from the rest of the deck.

The Metropol NEXT deck is quite literally the next step forward for Metropol Playing Cards. Printed by Expert Playing Card Co on their popular Classic finish. Pledge starts at $9 on Kickstarter. Don't miss out!

Kickstarter: Mono - X Playing Cards by Luke Wadey Design

Currently seeking funds on Kickstarter, Mono is a new collection of playing cards by Luke Wadey Design (Instagram: @luke_wadey_design). Designed to explore the usage of a single color and its tints, the first deck, Mono - X, uses different levels of black combined with two different gradient styles to create a deck with impact and ambition.

The deck sports a monotone colorway, with the traditional red cards taking on a grey tone instead of their usual color.

The deck uses variation in line thickness and grainy gradients to establish a bold theme carried from the distinctive card back where an X is created, all the way through the custom pips and court cards.

A 2-way back design teamed with side details on the card faces allow for cardists to flourish and magicians to excel in their routines. Mono - X is to be printed by USPCC on crushed card stock with air-cushion finish. Pledge starts at £8 (USD$10) on Kickstarter, with multiple stretch goals to be added!

Kickstarter: RAVN Playing Cards in Two NEW Colorway!

RAVN Playing Cards are back! This time with two new versions- Ravn Mani and Ravn Sol. A collaboration between Swedish magician, Caroline Ravn, and Stockholm17, the deck is fully custom and crafted for the magicians and cardists in mind.

On the new version,  Lorenzo Gaggiotti said,
Mani (dark blue) is the name of the god of the moon in Norse mythology, Sol (deep yellow) of the sun of course. It is not a deck about the sun and the moon, those are just names we gave to make it fancier. The blue one resembles the bicycle blue rider back, therefore good for performing magic and the deep yellow is for the cardistry, it is a color that pops, it is warm and nice.

The RAVN's will feature 2 new jokers, a redesigned Ace of Spades, a double-backer gaff, and a split face gaff.

The court cards are brought over from Ravn Purple Haze and Ravn 1. The deck is neatly packaged in an all NEW tuck box design.

The deck will be printed by Cartamundi on a special paper stock, 310gr Black Core paper with 9C² varnish designed for better handling.

Pledge starts at $16 on Kickstarter and there will be an early bird for 24 hours on the special dual case with both decks is available for $30 (pictured above).
