CPU Playing Cards. Final 4 Days on Kickstarter!

Currently seeking funds on Kickstarter, CPU playing cards is a modern take on classic casino back design. The deck conceptualized by ESSE Playing Card Company, a collaboration between Dylanesse design studio and two Italian playing card manufacturers.

The design process took more than two years, the main goal was to give the deck a complex and modern look with a light grey on black colorway, similar to modern motherboards. According to the Kickstarter project page,
We wanted to create a classic casino deck but with modern feel, for this reason we chose the technology theme, computers to be specific. On the back has been designed a symmetrical motherboard, on which it's possible to recognize many components like the Central Processor Unit (CPU), intricate circuits, USB, parallel port, RAM slots, parallel ATA, PCI slot and the SSD expansion.

Vintage casino decks are usually borderless with casino's mirrored logo on top/bottom. To recreate this look we placed the CPU in the center with multiple circuits branch out and with all the other components form a background pattern. Each pip, suit and court card in the CPU playing cards has been completely redesigned. The Vintage Arrco faces have been given a modern and fresh new look.

The CPU deck has been created with magicians in mind. The intricate design of the card backs hides multiple marking systems and the edges to let you perform impossible magic effects. You can easily identify any card from the back and without spreading the deck, without looking at the back and faces you will know the position of each card and any missing card even if the deck is shuffled... just imagine the possibilities.

Printed on the highest quality crushed 310gsm card stock with premium Air Cushion "superior " finish by ESSE Playing Card Co. Pledge starts at €13 on Kickstarter.

Chronos Playing Cards To Release Tomorrow!

Lotrek first announced Chronos Playing Cards during the 2019 52 Plus Joker Annual Convention held in Charlotte, North Carolina at the Hilton Charlotte University Place. As the name suggests, the theme of the beautiful deck is time.

Collectors or fans of Lotrek will recognize the familiar card back design, as it is based on Lotrek's first deck, 'Timeless'. The deck is fully custom from the pips, jokers to the court cards and Ace of Spades. All this while keeping the traditional elements of playing cards in place.

The beautiful tuck box is printed on double color pearlescent stock. What makes this deck really unique is that the tucks look like as if there were discovered in an attic where they had been forgotten for decades. Accroding to Lotrek,
What makes the deck unique though (apart from the fact that it's my first deck without a delay) is that each and every tuck case is different. My partner Melania Damianou has "aged" the tuck cases -which are printed on watercolor paper- using a mixed media technique.

They are only 220 Collector's edition decks in total, some of them were sold in 52plus joker convention and there will be another 180 available from Lotrek's website on Saturday at 10:00am NY time.

The 52 Plus Joker Club Deck- The Entertainer

The fifth 52 Plus Joker Club deck was presented at the 52 Plus Joker Annual Convention by none other than Lotrek! This year, the 2-time 52 Plus Joker Diamond Award winner has designed a stunning deck- The Entertainer.

The Club Deck is being offered to attendees of this years 52 Plus Joker Convention held in Charlotte, North Carolina at the Hilton Charlotte University Place. The convention draws a huge following from all corners of the globe and you would be hard pressed to find a larger collection of vintage playing cards and related items under one roof.

The eye-catching deck features an embossed tuck case with gold and silver foil accents. The cards are just as spectacular, with the same gold and silver foil used on the intricate card backs and face cards. On the inspiration, Lotrek said,
Because of the time period, I found the perfect wrapping for everything was my love for American typography and graphic design of the late 19th - early 20th century. More specifically, as typography appeared in sheet music covers. This artistic guideline gave me the freedom to use a lot of text all over the deck yet in a way that hopefully people will like and appreciate.

The suits are custom and showcase the intricate design work within the symbols. Silver foil is used to decorate the black suit, while gold foil is used on the red suit. According to Lotrek, this deck feautues and "industry first",
Imagine combining both cold and hot foil printing. Yes, both foils shine. But they have different characteristics and limitations. This was purely experimental. But from my experience, I find the result to be beautiful. At the very least, hopefully you’ll find it interesting. In any case, to my knowledge, this has never been done before.

The deck also features a custom Ace of Spades, beautifully rich standard court cards and two custom Jokers depicting the 52 Plus Joker Logo.
For the courts, I trusted the long-loved standard scheme with some degree of customization. Initially, I thought to use my own take on the standard courts as a base. After some time in designing the deck though, I realized they should feel more unique and related to the era of the deck. So, I transformed them and made them look engraved to give a 19th century vibe.

Like all 52 Plus Joker club decks are available to club members only. To join 52 Plus Joker and be eligible to purchase one or more of these find decks, head to 52plusjoker.org.

Final Week! Modern Idols Playing Cards on Kickstarter

Modern Idols is a brand new series of playing cards by Thirdway Industries, based on the beliefs of the modern age. Designed by the Italian designer Giovanni Meroni. The deck is currently funding on Kickstarter and is already 207% with a week to go. According to Giovanni,\
Idols are freely inspired by a TV Series about American Gods - The story is about the new Idols that replaced the Old Gods.

Modern Idols series was initially planned as a simple project for Giovanni's Patreon, but the project grew on and in the end, he decided to make more decks and fund it with Kickstarter. Modern Idols decks incorporate Giovanni's recognizable artwork, vibrant color palettes with a new mythology.

There are 4 editions in the Modern Idols Series. Two unlimited editions, Hope and Fear; and two limited editions, Extreme Fear and Endless Hope.

Inside, the artwork is fully custom. The courts of Hope and Fear Edition are completely different. The card backs feature the same design with different color schemes. The Hope Edition uses a lot of Pure Silver Metallic ink combined with Neon inks; while Fear is focused on Neon colors only. Giovanni continued,
In terms of technology, Modern Idols will be one of my craziest decks. The faces uses 5 different colors: 3 neon inks that go fluorescent under blacklight, the awesome "pure silver" I have already used on Monolith and 1 solid dark color for contrast. Also, Idols is my first deck that uses a different color for each suit.

For the limited editions, Extreme Fear and Endless Hope contain the same cards as their unlimited counterparts but also include a limited, experimental tuck box made with NEW high-end paper combined with silver, gold, and copper holographic foil.

These editions are made primarily for Kickstarter backers and will be difficult to obtain after the campaign. Less than 1500 of each will be made, and both editions will be sealed and numbered.

Printed by the USPCC and pledge starts at €14 on Kickstarter.
