The deck that started it all is back... Kings Wild is releasing a reprint of the original Federal 52 playing cards. The "Fed" took the community by storm and it wasn't only an amazing Kickstarter campaign, it also opened the Kickstarter floodgates for every aspiring card designer since.

For the collectors, how to tell the difference between the reprints and the originals? There are a couple differences that will allow any collector to differentiate. Kickstarter: Shadows of London, A Victorian London themed Playing Cards

Shadows of London is a Victorian London-themed deck of playing cards currently on Kickstarter. Produced by Mariane Larsen with incredible artwork by Patrick Leis, the decks feature characters inspired by Victorian archetypes, Sherlock Holmes, the night watchman, Dr. Jekyll, and the roughneck on the docks.

The deck showcases London in 1843 when the construction of Big Ben begins. However, there are already many bells tolling long echoes through the dark streets of London. These narrow streets are inhabited by suspicious figures that cast long shadows. A thief, a beggar, a prostitute, a corrupt politician, and his cunning wife. All skeptical and scheming about the intentions of the shadowy figure right around the corner and at the end of the street.

There are two editions available during the Kickstarter campaign, Pennyless and Moonshine. The Pennyless tuck has a gloomy scenery printed in a matte material with a striking silver foil and an embossed title that brings the poor people of the Victorian streets to the foreground. This tuck box is designed to set the tone and atmosphere of the theme. It has a fully custom stamp-like, numbered tuck seal. The face cards are designed in a one-way format for an art-focused layout on the character illustrations.

The Moonshine Edition tuck is manufactured in a horizontal format with a black soft-touch stock for a truly exquisite victorian feel. The tuck exterior is adorned with intricate and detailed gold foil on all sides, inspired by luxury brand tobacco and matchbox packaging from the time period. It has a fully custom stamp-like, numbered tuck seal.

The Moonshine number and face cards are designed in a classic two-way layout with an index in all four corners for optimized playability. Both editions share the same card backs featuring details such as Victorian street lamps, gate spikes, floral damask, and the Big Ben clock tower.

Printed by TWPCC with Classic Finish. Pledge starts on Kickstarter. Also, add-ons such as antique Silver/Gold coin, illustrated booklet, and deck pouch are available during the campaign.

Danger Decks (High Voltage Edition) Playing Cards Hits Kickstarter Funding Goal

From the Cardpenter, the Danger Decks are a bold minimalist deck of playing cards inspired by the signs we see around us in our everyday life. The deck is currently funding on Kickstarter and has just hit its funding goal, raising $1,500 with one week to go.
On the design the Cardpanter said, Be it directional, safety, or warning signs, they are very eye-catching despite the minimalistic design. We want to capture the magic behind these designs and bring to you playing cards that are simple and bold. My goal with the Danger Decks is to produce something that I think you will love to use every single day, whether you are a magician, cardist, or even a card collector looking for a unique deck of cards.

The deck features a vintage casino two-way mirrored back design featuring the high voltage sign found in Singapore. The design on a white background, do make it stand out and draw attention.

The face cards are pretty much standard with the exception of the Ace of Spades. No jokers but 4 gaff cards are included in this deck, Double Backed Card, Queen of Clubs / Queen of Clubs Double-Faced Card, Ace of Hearts / Seven of Clubs Double-Faced Card, and Ace of Spades / Ace of Hearts Double-Faced Card.

Hydrogen Deck V2 Playing Cards Funding Now on Kickstarter

Now on Kickstarter, the Hydrogen Deck v2 (Deuterium Isotope) is the second edition of the popular Hydrogen Deck. This deck is also the fourth release in the Elemental Playing card line-up. As with every Elemental Playing Card deck, there are loads of scientific meanings littered throughout the deck for you to discover. Some are obvious, others not so much.

The back design uses some of the same design elements as the v1, such as a pattern of H's, but instead of a vertical/horizontal pattern, it uses a repeating 2H (the symbol for deuterium) in a diagonal pattern. The back also features a broken border design, with two thick bold black diagonal lines that allow for enhanced flourishing.

The face cards are pretty much standard but updated to fit with the Deuterium theme. The custom ace of spades includes the words "Deuterium" as well as an updated atomic mass. The nucleus on the spade now houses the one neutron deuterium possesses.

The Hydrogen v2 deck is the first of the Elemental Playing Cards to also include an ad card. Illustrations of all three hydrogen isotopes can be found, as well as the definition of an isotope.

For the Hydrogen Limited Edition, the striking deck combines magenta ink and magenta metallic ink. According to the campaign page,
The color magenta was chosen for the Limited Edition because of the color emitted by hydrogen gas when an electric current is passed through it. At low current levels hydrogen will emit a bluish lavender color, and at higher current levels it will turn a pink magenta color.

The color is used consistently throughout the deck from the back design to the tuck case and face cards. All standard red colors on the face cards have been swapped out for the metallic magenta ink. Standard blues and yellows have been replaced with black.

The decks are printed by the USPCC on classic stock, traditionally cut with air-cushion finish. Pledge starts at $12 on Kickstarter. Also, gilded Hydrogens, Carat Cases, uncut sheets, shirts, and hoodies are available as add-ons during the campaign.

Deck View: Seafarers Playing Cards

Timeless. Nautical. Intricate.

Seafarers Playing Cards are a nautical-themed deck by Joker and the Thief. Designed by Gustavo Magalhães, a passionate artist hailing from Brazil, Gus brings the concept to life and carry the symbolism, characters, and vibe over to Seafarers.

Fully custom, the intricate card backs incorporate symbolically and thought-provoking imagery, maintaining a timeless air. The court cards are completely illustrated by hand, from scratch. Themes from the back design carry over and give life to these oceanic royals. Each suit tells its own story, with each jack, queen, and king being thematically and symbolically linked.

The deck is packaged in a premium imported, uncoated matte paper stock, in off-white. Clove Street used vintage letter pressing techniques to stamp Seafarers' signature Sea Green colored ink into the paper, both on the exterior of the box, and interior.

Shadows and Dust Playing Cards on Kickstarter

Shadows and Dust Playing Cards is a striking deck series by Agitcom dedicated to gladiators. Now funding on Kickstarter, the idea was to create a deck that would reflect harsh reality, the strength, and spirit of brave warriors in that time period.

According to the designer Sviatoslav Pashchuk on the KS campaign page,
For a long time, I had the idea to create a deck dedicated to gladiators. The turning point was the trip to Switzerland in 2019, where during a gloomy and rainy day I accidentally found the museum with an exhibition of gladiatorial armor. I am a big fan of Ridley Scott's films, and one of my favorites - the Gladiator. This exhibition in Switzerland impressed me so much that I started working on the deck dedicated to these strong and courageous men.

Three editions are on offer during the campaign: Rudis, Dust, and Shadow. Each edition comes with its own custom tuck box but shares similar custom artwork on the backs and face cards.

Each hand-illustrated court card features twelve men and women from Ancient Rome, meticulously finished with beautiful richly decorated garments and weapons. The artwork on the Shadow Edition, in particular, is truly striking with silver metallic ink against the dark background.

The mirrored card backs feature the coliseum adorned with decorative elements and ancient patterns of the Romans. The Rudis Edition comes in blue metallic, Dust in red metallic ink, and Shadow Edition comes with red metallic ink on a contrasting background.

The aces intricate and bold, consistent with the overall theme on the face and card backs. Individually, they are strong enough to be artwork on their own.

The cards are secured in a beautifully crafted tuck box. The restrained and dark colors of the boxes, and the small accent on the foils, symbolize short and instantaneous eruption of glory at the peak of life and the brink of death. Rudis comes with gold foil, Dust in copper foil, and shadow in striking red foil. All tucks come with embossing.

The decks will be printed by the Expert Playing Card Co. on Classic Paper with Linen finish. Pledge starts at $15 on Kickstarter now.

Also with NFT trending at the moment, a crypto card is available as a pledge tier featuring one of the aces of Shadows and Dust. It has a three-dimensional format and an animated structure. Don't miss out!

Check Out Riffle Shuffle's Stunning The Grand Playing Cards

Another stunning deck from Riffle Shuffle funding on Kickstarter. Champagne glasses, crystal chandeliers, and glistening shiny attires... join the glitz and glamour of the 1920s with The Grand Playing Cards. From the Kickstarter campaign,
You walk into the big hall of the Grand Hotel, and immediately you're surrounded by a jolly crowd, dancing and singing to the cheerful music, rich with the tones of a saxophone. The air is full of the intoxicating smell of perfumes, the sound of clinking champagne glasses, the crystal chandeliers, and the glistening of shiny attires worn by the cheering group of young party-goers.

Over a year in the making, there are three editions available during the campaign, Golden Glamour, Silver Allure, and Chinatown. The fully custom decks are designed by Bravo Design. The card backs are truly made to dazzle and follow the design principles of the art deco style of that age.

The geometric patterns on the face cards are done in black and run across the entire card, matched up by the distinct art deco font of the indices. The suit symbols are also appropriated in the same style and the entire card has a rather balanced feeling.

The court cards feature characters that frequent The Grand, one by one. Elegant ladies and sleek gentlemen rub shoulders with dangerous-looking gangsters with guns. Each of the characters has a fierce animal attributed to it, and they are showing off beautifully in a mirrored design.

The Aces are a sight to behold, fully utilizing the Gold/Silver cold foil to establish the arrays of The Grand. The middle of the card is dominated by a large black suit, out of which rays of strong light fan out towards all four corners of the card. The background mimics this circular structure centered in the middle of the suit and is broken off only by more ornaments on the edges, and an elegant black frame.

The Jokers are decorated with a design of a happy man sitting at the piano, expertly running his fingers over the keys while a cigarette dangles from his lips.

The tuck box is richly decorated mimicking the façade of the Grand Hotel built in a distinct art deco style. The golden geometric shapes on a pitch-black background reminiscent of natural motives adorn the entire front wall. Aligning the tuck cases of all 3 editions to get a full city-wide view with the Grand Hotel welcoming you in.

The decks are printed by Cartamundi, featuring their Advanced COLD FOIL Printing Technology on the Back Design with their premium Slimline Paper Stock and B9 True Linen Finish. Pledge starts at $17 on Kickstarter.
