Victory Playing Cards by Joker and the Thief

Joker and the Thief’s Victory playing cards are crafted for those who seek Victory, in any endeavor. For founder James Millaras, the deck is an homage to his family.

According to the product page,

The name Victory is a direct tribute to the efforts of James’ grandparents, who were Greek immigrants and owned and operated a fish and chips shop in Far North Queensland, Australia in the 80s through to the late 90s. The name of the shop was Victory and became an institution in the small port town of Cairns – known for quality food and customer service. Victory playing cards pays tribute in name to their immigrant spirit of hard work, of which we as a family are grateful to be inspired by and benefit from.

The stunning deck comes with a stunning embossed tuck box with letterpress inks and foil both interior and exterior. The borderless card back comes with a repeated JT logo design with metallic inks.

The face cards are pretty much standard with the unmistakable art style of Pedro Oyarbide. The court cards are modeled in classics to create a distressed vibe associated with the brand.

Limited to 1,000 decks and are available now from jokerandthethief.com for $20.

Matcha Boba Playing Cards for Matcha Lovers, and Boba Addicts!

Check out the new offering on BaoBao Restaurant‘s menu, Matcha Boba Playing Cards. Produced by Magician Bao Hoang and Illustrated by Angga Tantama, Meko Deng, & Rich Li, the deck is currently seeking funds on Kickstarter.

The eye-pleasing deck sports a pairing of green and cream tones, perfectly capturing the velvety concoction that is matcha milk tea. A lot of thought has gone into the beautiful design and packaging of the bubble tea-inspired design.

The two-way back design captures the process of perfectly whisked matcha poured over your preferred milk base. The chewy boba is covered by a delicately sweetened milk base that’s finally topped off with velvety matcha in metallic light green ink.

The pips for each suit are custom carrying the matcha tea theme from the back design over to the pips. The traditionally red pips are transformed into matcha, and the traditionally black pips follow a dark green matcha-inspired theme. Each and every single pip has a wave-shaped layer of matcha milk tea to fully tie the theme together.

Instead of the traditional ace of spades, the Matcha Boba deck showcases an actual cup of matcha boba with splashes of matcha milk tea around the spade. You’ll never find another ace of spades that makes you crave boba as much as this one!

The courts have been customized and updated with custom-designed faces If you look closely, each and every court card has a different and unique face, while performing a different and unique action!

The deck is packaged in a minimalist design tuck box resembling a cup of boba to actually look like: matcha with the tapioca (bubbles) at the bottom, and milk tea on top. This pairs perfectly with the transparent plastic casing to really give you the experience of holding a cup of boba!

Now onto the most unique feature of this deck: the cup! What do we mean by “cup”? The specially designed plastic casing that comes with each and every deck! This plastic box not only serves as a cup, it also doubles as a protective layer for the more delicate paper box.

The deck is printed by the United States Playing Card Company with Air-Cushion Finish on Bee Casino Grade Paper. Limited to 3500 decks. Pledge starts at $12 on Kickstarter.

Deck View: Pioneers Playing Cards

Exploration. Discovery. Curiosity.

When Ellusionist first teased PIONEERS on social media, the images generated quite a buzz as it was a departure from their usual modern design. This beautiful deck is fully custom, inside and out. From the distinctive deck seal to the impeccable pips. Every detail and line on the tuck, backs, aces, and jokers was painstakingly hand-drawn by renowned playing card artist Oban Jones.

On the card back is a lady of liberty, with a phoenix at her feet. In her left hand is the flag of the United States – in her right is the lesser-known but equally poignant flag of Chicago. The back design celebrates the 1893 World’s Fair, a spectacle that commemorates the 400th anniversary of Columbus’ arrival to the new world. Also, hidden in the design are 52 easily-readable markings, to use for either magic, mischief, or both.

The deck is kept secure in an exquisitely constructed tuck box, capturing the texture of the period-accurate paper. Debossed in all the right places, to create a 4th dimension of quality. The deck inside is printed by Cartamundi on luxury-pressed E7 stock for that crushed but durable feel.

Available now on Ellusionist.com. Use coupon code KARDIFY for 10% off your order.

There are two main editions of the deck during the campagin: Regal and Scholar Edition. The Scholar Edition features a simple tuck box printed in CMYK with soft touch finish.

The artworks for the entire deck create a callback to the rich and beautiful history of the Renaissance era. The back design features engraving-style art showing some elements from the era. The face cards will have an aged brown parchment paper like on the background to signify the era the deck is based.

The numbered cards featured customized pips in non-standard arrangements. Each suit featured important aspects surrounding the Renaissance era. Hearts represent the Arts; Diamonds represent Politics; Clubs represent Religion, and Spades represent Exploration.

On Kickstarter, Tough Luck V2 Playing Cards

Two years ago, Docs Playing Cards collaborated with Native Tongue Studio to produced Tough Luck Playing Cards. The popular deck won 3rd Place in the UC DOTY 2020 Awards for Best Tuck and with the series having such a large following, founder Michael McClure decided it needed a second version.

There is not much difference between the original edition with the second edition. The first edition comes with black as the background color, while the second edition features blue colorway. Both versions come in the standard bordered edition and the borderless “Shadows” edition.

The card back design features a repeating pattern of a skull-and-dagger with flower tiles. The bordered design is ideal for EDC deck while the borderless design is great for card spreads and fans.

The faces of the cards are custom designed. The numbered cards are using customized pips. The Ace of Spades featured an intricate artwork of the bigger pip guarded by two rabbits along with the deck name and the number ’76’ in Roman numerals.

The court cards featured artworks of undead royals – each of them showcasing an unfortunate event that led to each of the royal’s death: such as 7 years of bad luck from breaking a mirror, drawing a “dead man’s hand” during poker, setting head on fire, and many more.

The Jokers featured identical artwork of an anthropomorphic fox holding a wooden plank by his neck to set up a game of “3 Card Monte”, a favorite game by street hustlers. The standard edition’s faces come in classic black and red color to differentiate the suits, while the “Shadows” edition’s faces are in achromatic black and white – red suits are shown in grey.

The tuck box defines the different variants of the deck series in Tough Luck. The standard edition will be packaged inside the standard box printed in CMYK. The Limited edition features a premium paper cardstock box complete with metallic foiling and embossed elements. There will be custom seals for the Limited Edition and the Gilded Editions. A mini version of the decks is available during this campaign.

Pledge starts with $26 for a set of Standard Edition decks OR $32 for a set of Limited Edition decks on Kickstarter.

Relaunched on Kickstarter, Trust No Fella Playing Cards

Relaunched on Kickstarter, Trust No fella Playing Cards is a playful deck by Mexico City-based designer Peemouch. The concept of the deck is based on old cartoons from the 30s, the cuphead video game, and Alice in wonderland. For the narrative of the deck,

The 4 different factions of the playing cards kingdom lived peaceful lives, until one day our little mysterious cheeky devil arrived. Her motives are unknown but she is determined on having all the factions fight each other to the end! She has stoked the fires of the old hatred that has been dwindling for ages between all the factions, now she watches, scheming and waiting for the winner of the conflict so she can make her next move.

The fully custom deck is a mix of aesthetics of the cartoons from the 30s, graffiti, and abstract art. The use of contrasting colors and organic shapes gives this deck a touch of playfulness and fun!

The back design represents the conflict between the four factions. The whole back is engulfed in the flames of our cheeky devil, while at the center of the card is a hand being bitten by a snake in a circle with the symbols of the factions, this represents the conflict between the four factions of the playing card kingdom.

The 4 factions of the playing card kingdom are The royal spades, The noble hearts, The proud clubs, and The magical diamonds represented on the face cards.

The faction of the spades prefers to use swords over any other weapons, they are the most “royal” out of all the factions and were the leaders of all the factions before the conflict started. The spades king and queen are the only ones that have crowns.

The faction of the hearts is a very noble group, they prefer to use thin duel swords and long-distance weapons like bows and arrows, their king and queen think of themselves as above this conflict so they stay busy with other matters but they are ready to fight if they need to do so.

The clubs are the proudest faction of all, they only use axes as their weapons and have a very military-like structure in their ranks. They are very ambitious and are looking to take the leader position from the spades at the end of the conflict between the factions.

The diamonds have devoted themselves to studying magic and stealth arts, some could say that they are some type of magical ninjas. They prefer to use short knives as weapons. Some of their higher-ranking members use powerful magic as their weapon of choice. Their reasons to fight in this conflict are unknown.

The arrangement of the number pips has been given some variations, most of them are wacky variations that go with the flow and style of the characters in the deck.

The deck is packaged in a minimalistic tuck box to represent the idea of the user descending into this world Peemouch created where the little cheeky devil has created all this conflict and that now this world is engulfed in flames. Printed by the USPCC on Bicycle grade stock and pledge starts at $15 on Kickstarter.

Deck View: Eastern Forest Playing Cards

Wonder. Nature. Forest.

Eastern Forest playing cards by Art of Play are inspired by the eastern forest. The deck is a sensual guide for discovering moments of awe-inspiring wonder as if you were on a walk through nature. On every card is original text by award-winning author, David G. Haskell, whose work integrates scientific, literary, and contemplative studies of the natural world.

This is complemented by original paintings by Ellen Litwiller, an award-winning artist whose work explores connections between art and science. Fully custom, each suit represents a different sense: Hearts are invitations to touch and feel: the textures of plants, heat of animal bodies, and springiness of wood. Diamonds awaken eyes to flash of firefly, gleam of wildflower, and patterns on leaves. Clubs open ears to the forest’s many howls, songs, footfalls, and tree rustles. Spades call us to taste and smell yummy fruit and bitter leaf.

Packaged in a beautiful foil-stamped tuck box. Printed by The U.S. Playing Card Co. and available NOW from artofplay.com for $18.

Final Week! Mechanimals Playing cards on Kickstarter

Celsius Pictor together with our friend Max of Max Playing Cards is currently seeking funds on Kickstarter for a deck with a unique and meticulously crafted universe that honors the history of playing cards.

Mechanimals Playing cards is a true work of art with 100% custom design without neglecting deep respect for the history of traditional playing cards based on the following narrative,

July 25, 1880. In a small inn on the Spain-France border along the Way of Saint James, an exhausted pilgrim recovers his strength with a jug of wine after his journey. He takes a deck of well-worn playing cards out from his bag and invite his table companions to play a game. The deck was printed in England, with the tax mark on the Ace of Spades. Each card, from numbered to court, reproduces the already centuries-old printing traditions. The pilgrim deals the cards, and the game begins.

Celcius is passionate about details, elegance, and storytelling. Mechanimals is a personal project that brings together all his passions, developed over the last years of his career, and which he intends to share with the playing cards community.

Every aspect of this deck is thought out and illustrated in great detail to create an atmosphere that carries you to a unique historical universe, blending the Renaissance and the Industrial Revolution in a bunch of imaginative and surprising characters.

Each face card features beautifully illustrated characters that honor the heritage and history of European playing cards in a unique and fantastical way. Celcius continues,

We could create a story between them, imagining how King David, the lion of the Judah tribe interacts with the knight Lahire or the beautiful lady of clubs in that medieval city in which they all live, but I would love if you could create yourself a new story each time you spread out all the cards.

For the card back design, four warriors distributed around a pond guard the card. Arriving in Europe from Jerusalem under the command of the great Sultan Saladin, these four warriors stand guard in an environment inspired by the medieval Arab art and atmosphere of the ancient kingdom of Al-Andalus.

TWO editions are available during the campaign- the limited edition and DeLuxe Gilded edition. The limited-edition deck is housed in an embossed tuck case with a design reminiscent of a luxurious skyline from the European Middle Ages. The tuck back is an elaborate coat of arms that combines the mechanics and heraldry typical of tradition. The inside of the tuck hides a secret,

As a surprise in this collectible deck, the inside of the tuck case hides a surprise: an image of the moment in which the first cards were possibly designed, and that can only be seen in its entirety if the case is disassembled. An inaccessible design just as the artisans of the Gothic cathedrals carved figures on the inaccessible roofs to delight only the sight of God.

The DeLuxe Gilded edition deck comes with a stunning die-cut tuck case sleeve. It enhances the elegance and beauty of this deck and shows Domenico Gonzaga, one of the first condottiere who fought in Italy during the Renaissance.

From this luxurious sleeve, this Renaissance great man sponsors and protects the Mechanimals deck, with a metallic blue reminiscent of ultramarine blue, the finest and most expensive pigment used by artists from the Renaissance to today!

Printed by Legends Playing Card Co. and pledge starts at $18 on Kickstarter.
