Eastern Forest playing cards by Art of Play are inspired by the eastern forest. The deck is a sensual guide for discovering moments of awe-inspiring wonder as if you were on a walk through nature. On every card is original text by award-winning author, David G. Haskell, whose work integrates scientific, literary, and contemplative studies of the natural world.
This is complemented by original paintings by Ellen Litwiller, an award-winning artist whose work explores connections between art and science. Fully custom, each suit represents a different sense: Hearts are invitations to touch and feel: the textures of plants, heat of animal bodies, and springiness of wood. Diamonds awaken eyes to flash of firefly, gleam of wildflower, and patterns on leaves. Clubs open ears to the forest’s many howls, songs, footfalls, and tree rustles. Spades call us to taste and smell yummy fruit and bitter leaf.
