The Lofi Mix Vol. 1 Playing Cards by X-Decks

0

The Lofi Mix Vol. 1 Playing Cards are produced by X-Decks currently funding on Kickstarter. The deck is inspired by the Lofi trend which represents a subgenre of electronic music that shares qualities with downtempo music, the chillwave scene, and lo-fi hip-hop. Lo-fi music mixed elements of house, jazz, easy listening, and hip-hop beats and samples with a DIY music aesthetic that emphasized the imperfect, homemade quality of analog recordings.

The design of the deck features many nods to lofi videos and subtle Japanese and music culture. The back design was created to represent a scene you might find if you googled lofi. The back includes 4 radio waves on each side of the card back and they glow under black light. The center is an abstract idea of more wifi radio waves and the rest of the background includes shooting stars and a sky speckled with faint basic stars.

The court cards are semi-custom with special elements added to them. Some with headphones, some are holding smartphones, and chewing bubblegum, and others playing with other pieces of technology. Also, the special King of Hearts has a special trick with a reveal.

The aces are all based on actions that may be taken in a music interface (i.e. Add, Pause, Favorite, and Play). The number cards all have custom colors on them with each card having a pip that looks like a neon light. Finally, the jokers are made to resemble items you may find in a lofi video. Such as a cup of coffee or a soda can.

The deck is packaged in a tuck box designed to look like a Walkman which is a vintage portable cassette player from the 90s, and the collector’s box (holds up to 4 decks) looks like a classic boombox! … according to the campaign page, it plays music as well!

Printed by the US Playing Card Company and pledge starts at $12 on Kickstarter.
