Final 24 Hours on Kickstarter, Caged Bird by Cash Playing Cards

Following the success of Altered World Playing Cards and Galaxy Art Playing Cards, Cash Playing Cards is seeking funds on Kickstarter for a very interesting deck series- Trapped Beast. Caged Bird Playing Cards is the first, depicting birds out of their cages.

Caged Bird Playing Cards is available in two versions: Emerald and Maroon. The Emerald edition features a blue/silver colorway, while The Maroon edition features a red/gold colorway. Both the gold and silver are holographic metallic foil.

The tuck box for the cards featured a dual tuck case structure. The outer sleeve features a die-cut window in the shape of a crescent moon along with holographic silver/gold foil on the artwork of swirling flock of birds.

The inner case features metallic ink and gold foil on the artwork of a beautiful bird. The design for this double tuck case follows its theme: the outer case represents the cage, while the inner case is the bird – combining them together, it becomes a ‘caged bird’.

The cards are entirely customized with beautiful artwork. The back design prominently features a big central circle in holographic gold/silver foil. There are swirls of feathers and birds surrounding the circle.

The pips are customized, with all aces showcasing larger pips. The courts feature beautiful illustrations of birds, spreading their feathers and flying in circles. Caged Bird is the first in the Trapped Beast series, with three future cards available in the future – there are a total of four decks in the series.

Pledge starts from $16 on Kickstarter.

On Kickstarter, Sushi Cats Playing Cards by Hyuga and Mijiko

Earlier this year, Hyuga, and Mijiko produced MEDCHA Playing Cards, an infographic deck about tea. It was a huge success with people enjoying the decks as much as the creator had fun designing and producing them. Now, the team is back with another interesting playing cards project- Sushi Cats Playing Cards, a deck about sushi and cute cats.

The back design features two cats holding onigiri (Japanese rice ball) with the “Sushi” banner behind it and accompanied by two black fishes. The four customized suits are located on the corners outside the border.

There is the Japanese letter for ‘sushi’ in the center that acts as the subtle one-way back element. The cards will be gilded with orange-pink foils that give the wavy pattern impression of a fresh salmon.

The number cards are presented in a unique way. The pips in particular are fashioned to look like sushi or onigiri, Japanese favorite cuisine, – stacked on a wooden tray plate. The court cards are based on the 12 Sushi Cats characters designed by PinLuck Butter. Each of the characters represents one kind of sushi with a funny caption.

The Aces are designed in classic Japanese calligraphy style. The Ace of Spades shows a big spade pip showing a wave painting with cats spotted lounging around them. The other Aces show a slightly bigger pip with big stylized Japanese characters.

The Jokers show two different illustrations: one with a sleeping cat on a sushi, and the other is a sushi on top of a lying cat.

The deck is packaged in a tuck box featuring cute artwork and an illustration of a cat clinging to the seaweed wrapping of salmon sushi. The outer layer is a plastic sleeve with printed artwork of kittens and rice bits. Combining both layers and you will have the complete design of the box.

Also, a collector’s set is available during the Kickstarter campaign. The wooden box comes with engraved Sushi Cat graphics with a foiled paper sleeve. Long with the deck, an enamel pin of a random sushi cat character, and a map showing some of the sushi shops in Japan will be included.

Printed by WJPC and pledge starts at $18 on Kickstarter.

Deck View: Jetsetter Lounge Edition (Hangar Orange) Playing Cards

Modern. Flight. Luxury.

The second Jetsetter Lounge Edition deck comes in a striking Hangar Orange colorway. Inside, the classy classic backs showcase a unique orange colorway with the Jetsetter Playing Cards spade logo within the pattern. Additionally, the spade logo on the back design has been replaced in a non-traditional way but still in a two-way vintage casino-style design.

The courts are pretty much standard but re-colored to match the look and feel of the Lounge Edition deck with a vintage style of red, black, and gold. The custom Ace of Spades exhibits the Jetsetter Playing Cards spade logo in the Jet Black colorway. Also, the iconic round-trip boarding passes which have become the trademark Jokers for Jetsetter Playing Cards have been revamped and modernized.

The deck is printed by the Expert Playing Card Company. Available now from jetsetterplayingcards.com for $13.

Just Type Playing Cards by Pentagram

From Art of Play, Just Type playing cards is a modern reinterpretation of classic deck design and a tribute to the different ways in which the spirit of type can be modified. Paula Scher, a titan of the graphic design world has helped to redefine modern typography. With fellow Pentagram designers Jeff Close and Kristin Huber, Scher has playfully deconstructed the classic french design of traditional “playing cards” and removed all extraneous elements.

All that’s left is Just Type.

Two editions are now available, Edition 1 and Edition 2. Edition 1 embraces big, bold postmodern elements. Oversized numbers constructed of simple shapes fill the entirety of each card. Each unique composition could stand on its own as a piece of art. Each number and letter is broken down into its basic elements, which then evokes an abstract idea, but communicates so clearly, it can be understood from across the room.

Edition 2 offers a minimalist approach in the spirit of classic mid-century design. Each card features an amalgamation of suit and value that expresses its identity with a single figure. A visually stunning font uses negative space to incorporate the familiar pip design into its own unique letterform. The result is both beautiful and humorous.

Together, these exceedingly adaptive versatile explorations of type prove once again that Scher is a master of pushing words beyond their literal meaning into the realm of purely visual expression.

Printed by the US Playing Card Company on premium card stock and housed inside a letterpress-printed tuck box. Available NOW from artofplay.com for $18.

Manipulator Playing Cards by Vermillion Collection

Another fascinating deck by Vermillion Collection- Manipulator Playing Cards, a deck where you pull the strings of the puppets. The custom artworks presented in this deck series are a compilation of grotesque illustrations presented as semi-transformative cards.

Each suit will have its own theme:

  • Spades represent leaves that become rotten on vines that begin to devour people around them;
  • Hearts represent literal organs that bleed out by a bloodthirst puppet;
  • Clubs represent a three-headed skull that begins to spread the darkness;
  • Diamonds represent a sinister puppet who plays with strings.

The back design of the cards is a one-way graphic illustration of the deck’s title, which is also the design of the box.

There are two versions of the deck: The Non-Gilded White edition and The Gilded Black edition. Both decks can be added separately OR as a set encased in a collector box complete with two commemorative coins.

The tuck box will be made with premium paper stock with foiling and embossing. The White Edition comes with an illustration of a monstrous puppet in the box interior.

Manipulator playing cards will be printed by KingStar and pledge starts from $14 for the White Edition, $18 for the Black Edition, OR $32 for both editions on Kickstarter.

Cardisty: Descendents Playing Cards Less Than 3 Days Remaining

From Card Perfect Magician (Youtube: @cardperfectmagician), Descendents Playing Cards was created to enhance cardistry. The deck is currently seeking funds on Kickstarter and, as of the time of writing, has reached 77% of its $7,500 goal with less than 3 days to go.

The descending design is made for moves like pirouette and hot shot to the neon green ink and thin border made for packet cuts, this deck makes all flourishes look stunning. According to Elijah Myers, the man behind Card Perfect Magician,

I created this deck when I went through a season of depression and I wanted to draw how I felt. That’s how the descending design came to be. Later I got into cardistry and found that design. This is why the motto of the deck is “No matter how far you descend you can always look up.

The back design comes with a thin border and a geometrical graphic of a vortex made with triangular patterns in three colors: green, white, and black. The narrow border helps in creating an appealing and beautiful visual on card fanning. The neon green colorway adds a wonderful effect with UV blacklight.

For the face cards, the courts have been slightly updated with outlines of the royals in white on black backgrounds for the black suits and striking neon green background for  red suits. The heads of the royals are slightly titled upwards.

The pips are customized to give it a 3D look. The Aces feature slightly bigger pips, with the Ace of Spades having its own unique design. Both Jokers showcase an identical graphic artwork of a jester hat with triangular geometric patterns.

The deck will be produced by USPCC on crushed stock with traditional cut and air-cushion finish. Pledge starts from $12 per deck on Kickstarter.

Thirdway Industries Releases Exclusive Black Friday Deck

Thirdway Industries has launched its special deck for this year’s Black Friday- Devotion Red Edition playing cards. Founder, Giovanni Meroni designed a stunning deck that tests the loyalty of their followers.

The tuck box for this deck is made of premium black matte paper stock with embossing on the artwork and metallic hot foiling for both the inside and outside of the box. It features a lot of evoking symbolism like snake, cross, sun, moon, and more – done in excellent brilliance of the foils. It will come with a custom perforated seal made of gold with custom artwork and numbered.

Inside, the cards featured metallic hot foiled artwork on the back design and metallic inks on the card faces. Also, the cards will be gilded with metallic foil. The faces featured customized courts and pips – completely customized both not standard or standard-ish. But, this is where the loyalty test lies – NONE of the face designs will be revealed, ONLY reserved to those who owned the decks. The owners are encouraged to share photos of the box, the card backs, and the gilding, YET the creator requests kindly that they would NOT share any photos of the faces.

There are two editions for this deck: Gold and Red. Devotion Gold features a box with gold metallic hot foil for exterior artwork with red metallic hot foil for interior artwork, the cards feature gold hot foil stamped artwork for the back design with gold foil gilding.

SINGULARITY- The World’s First AI-generated Playing Cards

From Red Black Inc, Singularity is the World’s first AI-generated playing cards. Singularity is a hypothetical future point when technological growth becomes uncontrollable and irreversible, resulting in unforeseeable changes to human civilization. It is believed we will reach singularity anywhere between 2036 and 2060.

This fascinating deck is created by artist and Red Black Inc team-member Fairest. The tuck and the cards were created using a variety of early-stage text-to-image generators and tied together by Adobe’s built-in AI features. The goal was to give the AI generators as much freedom as possible without sacrificing the deck’s usability. According to the press release by Red Black,

However impressive this new technology is, it is by no means perfect. To achieve this result, Fairest had to create hundreds of images and spend days refining them and tying them together. The artist experienced the generators as a tool in his tool chest. Just like a spray can, Photoshop, a camera, or a simple pencil. Nevertheless, this development will imply a significant shift in the creative industry, just like the introduction of creative software and digital camera.

The face cards feature semi-humanoid Kings, Queens, and Jacks, who rule over the four post-singularity empires represented by the Aces. A world in which humans are diminished to mere court jesters to these new rulers. The deck contains small AI-related easter eggs.

The embossed tuck with holographic accents gives you a glimpse into a futuristic post-singularity World where AI dominates.

Red Black Inc will release 2.048 numbered and sealed decks to celebrate this historic milestone in technological advancement. The cards are printed borderless on the signature viper-finished paper by Legends Playing Card Co. The tuck fits seamlessly together and is printed on the outside as well as the inside.

Singularity will be available on November 20th at 1PM EST on redblackinc.com and cardvolution.com
