Zero is a unique number in the world of science – the foundation of the cosmos. The Zero Playing Cards explores this very concept. Funding on Kickstarter, the deck is designed by engineer Subhabrata and Bivas from Old Gravity.
The design of the deck is inspired by the Art Deco movement of the 1920s and 1930s – a time when extraordinary leaps were made in the fields of physics and chemistry. You can spot the usage of lines, dots, and curves.
The back design features a graphic artwork of radiating lines coming from the curly bracket. A wave runs through the design in the middle, creating the inversion line between the positive and negative. Alas, you can see the beautiful conversion between black and white.
The faces will have the same concept as the back design – an intervention between the positive and negative. The black suits will use black, while the red suits will use orange copper – both have grey color as well. The courts will have that photo effect, where you can see the refined artwork of the courts and their negatives.
The spot cards for this deck are quite interesting. Not just that the pips are custom designed, but the indices are too. On the other side of the card, with the inverted colors, the indices will be marked with a minus sign, representing the numbers as negative numbers – it is a tongue-in-cheek concept where positive and negative numbers are coming towards zero.
The Aces featured large pips with custom-designed power pips. All of the aces featured the number zero inside of them, with the design still based on Art Deco design. The Jokers are almost identical artwork of spiraling pattern that swirl into the number zero.
The tuck box will be made with premium black card stock with orange and gun metal foil and debossed design. You can spot all the encircling patterns and dots surrounding the number 0. The number zero is highlighted on the box design.
