Cold Case Playing Cards: Who Murdered Erdnase?

Emily Feldman previously created custom decks with beautiful card backs that make eye-catching fans and spreads. For her next deck, Cold Case Playing Cards, Emily created a fun, thematic deck inspired by escape room/murder mystery puzzles now funding on Kickstarter.

In this deck of cards, it tells the story of S.W. Erdnase in a fictional crime story. It is said that he was murdered, and whoever killed the guy who wrote the bible of card magic and card cheating is never found to this day – hence it became a cold case.

The card back design features a two-way illustration of a crime scene. There is the chalk bodyline complete with evidence marker and blood puddle. Also, a crime scene tape is prominently featured, becoming a broken border element that creates a very visual fanning artwork.

All Aces feature enlarged pips fashioned to look like fingerprints. The color for the red pips is switched to orange – the color of the convict’s jumpsuit.

The court cards featured modified courts to look like mug shots- they are wearing the iconic striped uniforms as they are holding their prison tag standing in front of the height chart. There are two custom Jokers: one is a “Wanted Poster” and the other is a victim’s toe tag.

The sideway tuck box is designed to look like a folder that contains the details of the cold case files of S.W. Erdnase. Every deck comes with a special bag that is designed to look like an evidence bag, Continuing with the theme, the finished deck will be shipped in a box taped with custom sealing tape.

Cold Case will be printed on 300gsm Germany Black Core Paper and pledge starts from $13 on Kickstarter.

The Big Bang Playing Cards on Kickstarter

Bruce Di Quinzio, better known in the playing card community as Kardgic (Instagram: @kardgic) has been fascinated with magic, sleight of hand and collecting playing cards. This leads him to the creation of his first deck of playing cards. To bring his vision to life, he reached out to Edo Huang to design his deck, The Big Bang Playing Cards. This deck is inspired by the wonders of the universe and the miracle of life on Earth.

Inside, the mesmerising card back design features a swirling spiral pattern of a purple vortex surrounded by purple clouds. There is an array of white line bursts along with scattered asteroid rocks. The backs are secretly designed to be a one-way design, and riffling the cards will create a flip-book animation of a swirling vortex and orbiting asteroids!

The faces are all standards, featuring standard pips and courts. Two of the numbered cards feature a quote from scientists Nikolai Tesla and Albert Einstein. The Ace of Spades features an enlarged pip that is shattered into many pieces. This along with the other Aces have some asteroids encircling around.

The courts featured a pip that shows the beautiful scene of purple space, with elements of the royal clothes colored in purple. All of the faces featured stipples arranged in the spiral. Fanning the face will create a large vortex.

The Jokers feature identical artwork of the Black Hole. It complements the theme of the deck. There is an extra gaff cards that can be used for magic routines. There is an additional card that holds a surprise when the deck is finished.

The tuck box features a wraparound artwork of the purple space with the stipple vortexes and floating asteroid rocks. Combining three decks together will reveal this beautiful scenery.

The Big Bang will be printed with Cartamundi on B9 True Linen Finish and pledge starts from $13 for a single deck on Kickstarter.

Halidom and Devildom Playing Cards on Kickstarter

ARK Playing Cards continues to dazzle with its amazing innovations and beautiful artwork. Ever since its conception in 2020, ARK has always come up with elaborate projects, especially their eye-catching packaging along with their continuous display of craftsmanship. For their latest Kickstarter campaign, ARK explores the world of good versus evil with Halidom and Devildom Playing Cards.

Halidom Playing Cards is based on the essence of good and the serenity world of angels. Devildom Playing Cards is based on the essence of evil and the terrifying world of demons. The illustrations done for both series are outstanding, every detail is merged into one big painting done with exquisite craftsmanship.

The tuck box features an elaborate box of excellent construction pieces. Inspired by the grand corridors of palaces, the box is designed as a 3D-layered artwork constructed like an accordion. When the box is closed, it features elaborate artwork done as a kirigami-style artwork.

When the box is opened, you can see the layers of the artwork explode as you peered through the window to stare into the “long hallway”. The fully-opened box results in a maximum depth that exceeds nine standard-sized decks!

A new finish is introduced within this project – it’s called “Mystery Finish”. It is a two-layers finish that is applied on the cards that integrate with the artwork. This project also introduces their Holographic technology.

The Holo featured on the cards will have a fixed pattern with a special gold coating applied on the black core paper and printing inks. With these two technological feats, ARK assures the beauty of the cards from every angle. There are two types of Holo: Dawn Holo for Halidom and Ring Holo for Devildom.

Halidom showcases the artworks of holy angels with their big wings and radiant armor and the holy palace laden with beautiful gold and turquoise. The back design features a two-way illustration of a nestled sword with wings and cherubs within the golden palace.

The Ace of Spades features a female angel with six hands holding onto the sword and scale as well as closing her eyes, covering her ear, and demanding silence. The courts featured two-way illustrated portraits of angels with stoic poses wearing armors. The Jokers feature different artwork: one is a big white lamb, and the other is an armor with two geese holding up a halo ring.

Devildom showcases the artworks of evil demons with their dark gothic armors and the evil palace laden with illustrious gold and silver. The back design features a two-way illustration of a demon with a big horn creeping on the demonic palace.

The Ace of Spades features a merged sword and trident with two skulls and big curvy horns. The court cards specifically have two different sides – to symbolize humanity’s downfall to succumb to the evil side as they are getting corrupted.

On one side is their human form, and then they become corrupted into demons on the other side. The Jokers feature different artwork: one is a big black goat, and the other is a winged demon.

There are four main sets for each series. The Classic Set features the standard box containing two decks: the colored and the greyscale variant. The Black Set features a more-crafted box containing two decks: the black and silver variants, with cards done in their respective Holo finish.

The Walnut Set features a custom-made walnut box with metal engravings attached to it – the box contains a custom-engraved coin with the deck in gold-yellow color and cards will be gilded with textured metallic foil. The Leather Set features a single deck stored inside a custom-leather box: the purple foiled deck for Devildom / the green foiled deck for Halidom.

Pledge starts from $38 for the Classic Set on Kickstarter. Don’t miss out!
