Hong Kong-based playing cards enthusiast, CK Chong (Instagram: @blue_moon.co)has always wanted to create his own deck of cards. He established his own brand, Blue Moon Co. and launched Akita Playing Cards earlier this month on Kickstarter.
Already funded, the deck is based on this popular dog breed heralded from Japan, Akita. It is inspired by the story of Hachiko, a real-life story of the dog’s loyalty to its master. The deck not only showcases this special dog breed from Japan, but it also shows the love for Japanese arts and culture.
The tuck box features a triptych artwork if three boxes are combined in a C-shape. The front side of the box features the artwork of Akita wearing the samurai costume wrapped in Japanese waves. There is the title of the deck done in silver metallic foil – it also applies to some of the details of the box’s artwork. The back side of the box mirrors the card back design.
The card back design features a two-way illustration of a brave Akita dog swimming against the waves. There is the Japanese-stylized art of bonsai trees and cherry blossoms. The Numbered Cards feature customized pips.
The Courts feature cute illustrations of Akita dogs wearing samurai costumes. The Jokers feature identical artwork of the dog wearing Japanese peasant masks, both have different fur colors and patterns. The cards will be produced by Keycard Playing Cards Company.
The campaign offers a customized coin along with a C-shaped carat case. The deck is also available in a gilded variant – the cards are gilded with silver metallic foil.
