We’ve wrapped up our annual review, looking back on the events of the playing card industry over the past year. Throughout 2024, the industry saw MORE exciting licensed releases, and creative deck designs that kept the community engaged and inspired.

This year... our biggest recognition ‘Deck of the Year’ goes to Eye of the Ocean II by Stockholm17.

This is the second part to Lorenzo Gaggiotti‘s archaeo-fantasy project based on the age of sails. It is not just another deck of playing cards, but also a novel with an interactive puzzle. The journey takes place on the mythical sailing island itself, exploring all the mysteries around the place.

Joker and the Thief celebrates 10 years of innovation with No Borders: Series 2, a collection of playing cards inspired by decks from their back catalog. This series showcases fresh designs while honoring the brand's rich history, blending creative artistry with practical functionality.

Each deck draws inspiration from the intricate interior patterns of past releases:

• Joker and the Thief Back: A tribute to the original deck, featuring the interior pattern from its debut tuck box, paired with the elegant colorway of the Edition 5 release.

• Maidens Back: Featuring the floral interior design of the Maidens tuck box, originally illustrated by Kentaro Yoshida, it pays homage to this 2018 cult classic.

Sleep Walk Playing Cards by TCC & Lunzi

TCC's Sleep Walk Playing Cards showcase the artistry of Lunzi, blending elegant hand-drawn illustrations with a vintage-inspired design. Each card is meticulously crafted with dip pen illustrations, creating delicate lines that embody a retro charm and maintaining a playful and modern aesthetic. 

Inside, the deck’s light yellow background mirrors the natural tone of aged paper, enhancing its nostalgic appeal with each use. Hong Kong-based designer, Tiny, released on Kickstarter what would have been Bruce Lee's 84th birthday, this officially licensed deck celebrates his martial arts mastery in an innovative flip-book format.

Inside, each of the 54 cards has been meticulously crafted to showcase Bruce Lee’s iconic moves in motion. Flipping through the deck brings his signature punches, kicks, and nunchaku techniques to life, making this a one-of-a-kind interactive experience.
