KALEVALA Limited Edition – by @guruplayingcards . First Thoughts……The Kalevala deck is inspired by a collection of epic folk poems from the mythology and folklore of the Karelian and Finnish people. Printed in China by WJPC. The tuck features the blade and hilt of a brandished sword on the front and back, and accented with gold foil. The gold foil encompasses the interior of the tuck as well. Opening the tuck was difficult with an overly tight box assembly, resulting in my copy getting damaged. The cards themselves are gilded with a gold finish which looks great for display but makes fans clump and faros not possible. The cards have an aged parchment colouring which suits them perfectly. The back design is a two way image of a mythological owl like creature. The pips and indexes are fully customized and easy to read making the deck great for game play. The court cards are also fully customized and an included extra card lists the character names of each court card. Aces are all larger centre pips for uniformity and each is fully custom. A double backer is also included. Final verdict…..although I’m not a fan of gilded cards, with this deck I like how it completes the concept behind the deck. If not for the tuck being too tight it would be a perfect score. But due to that it’s a….. 4.75 / 5. A great addition to any collector’s display. I highly recommend it. Thanks to @guruplayingcards for sending the deck for review. YouTube review in the near future.
