Shakespeare Playing Cards is a collaborative effort by Ukrainian artists and producers. The deck is based on characters from William Shakespeare’s plays. These beautifully playing cards were intricately crafted with undeniable character and flair by Ukrainian artist – Maksym Lebedyk.
Three decks are made available during the Kickstarter campaign: Classic Black, Royal Burgundy, and a special Antique deck. The design of these decks is made in a classic and clean style to make them playable and a good gaming experience. Each deck has its own, unique hand-drawn card faces and the artwork of each court figure represents character in Shakespeare’s plays.
The Classic Black edition is the cleanest and the most classic deck in terms of design and color combination. Faces are clean and drawn in vivid colors, while some accent elements are printed with the use of golden ink.
The bold back design features a black colorway with a classic white border and gold ink accents. The tuck box is elegant and rich with details. A combination of golden and silver foils together with embossing forms completes the classic design of the box.
The Royal Burgundy edition forms a set together with Classic Black Deck. It features the same clean design for card fronts, but the back is printed in rich burgundy color with the use of metallic gold ink. Tuck box is another piece of art. The use of premium matte soft-touch cardstock for tuck box combined with embossed elements gives you an unforgettable tactile feeling.
The special Antique deck is the special edition deck on the campaign. The deck has been designed with an aged look and feel, which require special technologies and materials.
The design of card faces is worn, colors are faded and stains are present, similar to any 100+ years old deck. The back design feature stained and worn background, and when main design elements are as close as possible to the original deck issued in 1902.
A special aged-style cardstock for tuck box will be used. This cardstock already contains different stains and has a faded look also. Unique foiling technology will be applied to get torn and worn effect on foil. There will be no two identical copies of foiling over tuck boxes, each tuck box will have wear of foil in different places and shapes.
All 3 decks will be printed by Ukraine-based NPCC with high-quality German card stock. Pledge starts at $18 on Kickstarter.
