Designer Jody Eklund from Black Ink Branded has released another playing cards project on Kickstarter. The latest deck, Legionary Playing Cards revolves around the history of ancient Rome, focusing on the Roman warriors.

The Ace of Spades featured a big pip encasing the emblem of an eagle with a big sword wrapped with a banner bearing the Latin phrase: “Fortuna Audaces Iuvat”, roughly translated “Fortune favors the brave”. The numbered pips feature customized pips as well as customized pips arrangement within a squared frame.

The back design for the cards featured a two-way design of the Roman emblem of an eagle hovering behind a sword complete with filigrees on the background within a framed border.

The court cards featured warriors equipped with armors and weapons, illustrated based on the historical references – the figures are in full-body illustrations and breaking the bordered frame. The Jokers feature a diptych illustration of a Roman gladiator riding on a chariot pulled by two horses.

There are at least three editions of the deck: Dawn – Day – Dusk. In Dawn edition, the tuck box uses premium paper stock with black and bronze hot foil stamp and strategic 3D embossing – the cards only use CMYK ink.

In the Day edition, the tuck box uses premium paper stock with bronze and blue hot foil stamp and strategic 3D embossing, featuring a circular frame showing a Roman soldier’s helmet – the cards use full foiling. In the Dusk edition, the tuck box uses a handmade vintage black leather tuck with heavily detailed 3D embossing – the cards use cold foil technology along with bronze gilded edges.

The cards will be printed by Legends Playing Cards Co. on premium casino grade stock with classic finish. Pledges start at $17 on Kickstarter.
